Egyptian violet is highly priced in high-end fragrances and niche cosmetics. It thrives in Egypt’s mild winters and moist soils. Violet absolute is extracted from leaves between May and December. It is dark green and thick with a leafy floral aroma, and is harvested 3-4 times each season. In order to obtain the concrete, the method of solvent extraction with hexane is used.

This is followed by ethanol washing and evaporation to yield the absolute. Since the early 20th century, Egypt has been a major global producer of violet concrete and absolute. There is a strong demand for Egyptian violet, especially from the perfumery and skincare sectors.
