Ginger oil is derived from the rhizome of Zingiber officinale and is widely produced in India. This versatile plant thrives in warm, humid climates, particularly in Kerala, Meghalaya, and other northeastern states. It favours rich, well-drained loamy soil and requires ample rainfall. Ginger oil is extracted through steam distillation and is pale yellow to amber in colour. It is valued for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and digestive properties. Quality and quantity of ginger oil produced is low because of the heavy rains. As the temperature increases moisture content will decrease.

Increase in area of cultivation helped offset the high price observed in early 2024. Upcoming harvest is expected to be 40% higher than last year. Price will ease once the season begins, and fresh stock enters the market.

    Market prices : USD 82.00 /kilo
