Cornmint Oil (India)
Mentha Arvensis or cornmint thrives in hot, dry conditions with occasional rainfall. It is a resilient plant that can grow in a wide variety of soil types, but for optimal growth -and high oil yields, a rich, loamy soil is preferred. Intense heat is crucial during the distillation phase to maximise oil recovery.
Mentha arvensis is primarily used for its high menthol content. Its scent is more pungent and less sweet than peppermint, which is known for its strong, fresh aroma. Mentha arvensis is widely used in pharmaceuticals, oral care, confectionery, and cosmetics. Mentha arvensis is experiencing reduced cultivation this year, with sowing forecasts around 22,000 MT, approximately 20% lower than last year. Unusual weather patterns including early showers, have affected yield and increased distillation costs. At present oil price is stable and at favourable buying level.
