Indonesia’s extensive clove-growing sector continues to provide a substantial raw-material base for clove leaf oil production. Collection and distillation remain highly decentralised, however, resulting in considerable variation in oil quality and eugenol content between producing areas and individual distillers. Rainfall patterns, fuel expenses and competition for distillation capacity are also limiting the availability of lower-priced offers.

Demand remains consistent across eugenol extraction, flavour, fragrance, oral-care and pharmaceutical applications. The market is broadly stable, with a firmer tone for higher-quality grades.
