Clary sage is cultivated primarily in the central and southern regions of Moldova. The plant requires warm continental summers, abundant sunlight, and low humidity. It thrives in Moldova’s well-drained calcareous and loamy soils. Harvesting is carried out when the flowers reach optimal maturity. The aerial parts are then steam distilled to produce an oil rich in linalyl acetate and sclareol. Moldovan clary sage oil is prized in perfumery for its soft, sweet-herbal, musky notes and fixative qualities. It is also widely used in aromatherapy for relaxation, hormonal balance, and emotional well-being. Clary sage oil is used in skincare, natural deodorants, and botanical wellness formulations.

The crop performed better than expected resulting in a stable market situation. The harvest was good and the product is available in the market.
