Citronella grows in warm tropical regions of South Asia. In warmer climates, citronella blooms all year round, while in colder climates it blooms from spring to fall. It requires well-drained soil and about 6–8 hours of sunlight to prosper. Reduced demand in the last few years has seen farmers move away from the crop. This has resulted in a shortage of raw materials. The hot summer and water shortage haven’t helped the crop either. All this has resulted in a low oil stock in the market. The market price of citronella oil has increased, and the trend is expected to continue for some time.
