It flourishes in well-drained, loamy, and soil rich in organic matter with a slightly acidic to neutral pH ranging from 6 to 7.5. Steam or hydro-distillation of leaves yields basil linalool oil. The oil is highly valued for its versatile applications. Its primary component, linalool, gives it a sweet, floral, and herbaceous aroma, making it a popular ingredient in perfumery and aromatherapy. Production and oil prices are similar to last year.
