Basil thrives in warm, tropical, and subtropical climates. It needs full sun and requires at least six to eight hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal growth and oil production. It flourishes in well-drained, loamy, and soil rich in organic matter with a slightly acidic to neutral pH ranging from 6 to 7.5. Steam or hydro-distillation of leaves yields basil linalool oil. The oil is highly valued for its versatile applications. Its primary component, linalool, gives it a sweet, floral, and herbaceous aroma, making it a popular ingredient in perfumery and aromatherapy. Production and oil prices are similar to last year.
