Canadian Fir Needle essential oil is extracted through a process of steam distillation from fir needles from the species Abies balsamea also known as Fir Balsam Oil. The needles are the active ingredient and powerful chemical compounds are located. Once the essential oil is extracted, it can be used for a wide variety of uses.
This essential oil is colourless to pale yellow with a crisp, clean Christmas tree aroma that is uplifting, warming and calming. Canadian fir needle oil grows up to a height of 30 m and needles are about ¾ - 1-1/4 inches long with two white stripes running down the underside of each needle from March to september.
It was expected that after Christmas production would increase. However, with increasing levels of snowfall earlier, production has halted. There is a shortage of supply in the market. As a result, oil prices have increased.
