dil
Dill grows best in well-drained, fertile, sandy or loamy soils with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. It thrives in warm, sunny conditions and is sensitive to prolonged drought. This poses a challenge during Eastern Europe’s hot, dry summer. Moldova and Ukraine are key cultivation regions for dill herb, where it is harvested for both seeds and leafy parts used in distillation.
Dill weed oil is obtained through steam distillation of the fresh herb and carries a sharp, herbaceous, slightly spicy aroma. It is valued in the flavour industry for seasoning pickles, soups, sauces, and condiments. The perfumery sector uses it for its green and spicy notes. Yields of dill weed oil were lower this season, but oil is available in stock. Oil price is expected to remain stable thanks to existing contracts and stock history.
