Clary sage is native to southern Europe, including the black sea region. In Eastern Europe it is primarily cultivated in Ukraine, Russia, Bulgaria and Moldova. Clary sage grows well in temperate climates with fertile, well-drained soils that are rich in calcium. It thrives under sunny, moderately dry conditions and is cultivated in Moldova’s rolling farmlands, where consistent summers favour its aromatic flowering. Steam distillation of flowering tops yields clary sage oil, with its distinctive herbaceous, nutty, and slightly floral aroma. Moldovan clary sage is sought after across fragrance, wellness, and cosmetics sectors. Moldovan clary sage crop performed better than expected during the season.
