Lime thrives in the warm and sunny regions of Egypt like Beheira, Minufiyah, Sharqiyah, Fayoum, and Upper Egypt. The oil extracted from the peel through cold pressing or steam distillation is uplifting and has cleansing properties. Lime oil is a major product in Egypt’s essential oils bouquet. There is a growing global demand for natural citrus ingredients. Lime oil is sought after by the food and beverage industry, perfumery, cleaners, soaps, and aromatherapy. Egypt also exports large volumes of lime fruit and ranks 11th globally. Export volumes for lime rose from 80,000 tons in 2022 to 100,000 tons in 2023. This 25% increase can be attributed to competitive pricing, rising global demand and agricultural expansion.
