Canadian Fir Needle essential oil is extracted through a process of steam distillation from fir needles from the species Abies balsamea also known as Fir Balsam Oil. The needles are the active ingredient and powerful chemical compounds are located. Once the essential oil is extracted, it can be used for a wide variety of uses.
This essential oil is colourless to pale yellow with a crisp, clean Christmas tree aroma that is uplifting, warming and calming. Essential oil of Fir Needle oil (Canada) are often used in a diffuser or aromatherapy as it is considered stimulating and can be used to combat the symptoms of colds, cough, flu, sinus and chest congestion . it is also indicated as being an analgesic and having anti-inflammatory properties, hence it can be diluted in carrier oil for massage to alleviate arthritis and muscular pains. Canadian fir needle oil grows up to a height of 30 m and needles are about ¾ - 1-1/4 inches long with two white stripes running down the underside of each needle from March to september.
Fir needle oil is becoming a favoured oil in numerous new applications. As a result, the demand has intensified but production is unable to fulfil requirements. The season was truncated with the onset of early winter and snowfall which hampered the crop and subsequent processing. Now, though, volumes of available oil are curbed, and prices have charted their way to reach USD64/ kg; producers are trying to distil more quantities by the end of the season.
